Born

São Paulo, Brazil

Icaro was born in São Paulo. When he was 3, his family moved to the United States.
Age 4

First steps on the mat, in Boston

He started jiu-jitsu at 4 and wrestled too, becoming a state wrestling champion in Massachusetts.
2019

His first Pan Kids title

The first of ten IBJJF Pan Kids golds, and his first American Nationals title the same year.
Age 10

A new home at AOJ

He moved to California to train at Art of Jiu Jitsu under Guilherme Mendes, Rafael Mendes and Tainan Dalpra.
2023

Orange belt, and a European title

A year of Pan Kids, European, American Nationals and Jiu-Jitsu CON golds.
2024

Champion on three continents

Pan Kids in the gi and no-gi and the American Nationals in the U.S., the European title, and the Brazilian Nationals in Brazil.
2025

A first for WNO

He won the first kids match in WNO history by rear-naked choke, then submitted his next WNO opponent with a D'Arce. FloGrappling named him its 2025 Juvenile of the Year.
2026

Green belt, double ADCC gold and a 10th Pan Kids title

Promoted to green belt by Gui Mendes, he became a 10x IBJJF Pan Kids champion and took gold in his division and the absolute at the ADCC Youth World Championship in Austin. He is ranked No. 1 pound for pound in the gi and no-gi in the 14-year-old division.

Icaro at Art of Jiu Jitsu in Costa Mesa — AOJ · Costa Mesa

The team

Built at AOJ.

At 10, Icaro moved to California to train at Art of Jiu Jitsu in Costa Mesa. He trains under Guilherme Mendes, Rafael Mendes, Tainan Dalpra and Cole Abate, and in 2026 he received his green belt from Gui Mendes.

Now he gives back. Icaro helps teach the AOJ kids program, passing on what his professors taught him: the technique, the discipline and the belief that hard work pays off. He wants to inspire the next generation the same way his coaches inspired him.
